Dailymotion app for Windows Phone 7 brings on-the-go video viewing

Dailymotion -- one of the great productivity leeches of the Internet -- has arrived on Windows Phone 7. The app provides easy access to Dailymotion's massive stash of videos, and it's more than a mere wrapper around a mobile site (unlike Microsoft's YouTube app).

Featured videos are offered when the app first opens, and you can also browse Dailymotion's many channels. There's a built-in search function, though it's not triggered by your phone's search button. You'll have to flip through the app's screens until you reach its menu, which lets you search, view your video uploads, access your favorites and subscriptions, and sign in to your Dailymotion account.

While viewing in portrait mode, buttons are provided to like and share videos. Switch to landscape mode, and your video goes full-screen -- though always rotating clockwise, which left me looking at an upside-down feed until I did a quick 180. Tapping the screen brings a timeline slider and pause button into view.

Dailymotion works nicely, though there was an odd placeholder element which appeared when I first launched the app. Other than that minor glitch (and the rotation thing), the app worked well and video playback was quite smooth.
