LastPass now available for Windows Phone 7

Though the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace is growing steadily, the platform is still lacking plenty of marquee apps. You can now cross one off the list, however -- popular password manager LastPass has arrived! Log in to the app, tap a site in your list, and the WP7 browser opens and LastPass logs you in automatically.

Right now, LastPass for WP7 is read-only, meaning it can pull down all your credentials which are stored in the LastPass cloud but it can't upload new sites from your device. The app also currently only works on sites with that use JavaScript, which LastPass states is an issue Microsoft itself has to resolve.

As with LastPass on other mobile OSes, we suspect you'll need a LastPass Premium subscription ($12/year) to use the Windows Phone 7 app beyond a trial period. We'll update this post as soon as we receive confirmation one way or the other.

Opera 11 downloaded 6.7 million times on day one -- thanks to the power of bacon

While Opera 11's warm reception had a lot to do with a greatly improved browser and a very loyal fan base, the boys in Oslo had one clever trick up their sleeve which they saved for launch day. And with nearly 7 million downloads in 24 hours, you've got to hand it to Opera: they know how to tempt a geek.

How'd they do it? By dangling delicious bacon in front of Reddit users. You've got to admit, the Opera 11 Web advert is at least as enticing as those Evony ads -- you know which ones I'm talking about.

As for those of us who already tried Opera 11 and knew it was a solid browser... well, if you're like me, you're probably just craving some sizzlin' hot bacon right about now.
Curse you, Opera!

HRC Update On Pedrosa's Shoulder Injury: Recovery Going Well, About To Resume Training

With the holiday season almost upon us, teams are clearing their desks before heading off for their Christmas and New Year's break. That explains the blizzard of press releases being issued. The latest HRC missive concerns Dani Pedrosa's condition, and his progress during his recovery. The Spaniard broke his collarbone in Motegi in early October, after the throttle on his RC212V stuck open, causing him to crash heavily. The collarbone was plated, but bruising and swelling caused Pedrosa a number of problems while racing. Below is the HRC update on his condition:

DANI PEDROSA TO RESUME FULL TRAINING IN JANUARY

Repsol Honda Team rider Dani Pedrosa is now in the final stages of recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained last October and is excited to return to training in early January.

The Spaniard will spend a full month working on his physical condition to ensure that he is in the best possible shape for the first MotoGP test of 2011 at Sepang, Malaysia, from February 1st to 3rd.

WSBK Schedule Reshuffled, Superpole Revised, More Technical Changes Coming

With some sense of sanity returning to motorcycle racing paddocks around the world, many of the emergency cost-cutting measures put in place in late 2008 and early 2009 are being reversed. One of the most prominent was the rearranging of the schedules on a race weekend, with practice in MotoGP being cut from four sessions to three, and in World Superbike, having all of the action removed from Friday morning. The WSBK schedule had taken on a rather strange appearance as a result, with two sessions of practice for both the World Superbike and the World Supersport classes jammed into Friday afternoon.

The Superbike Commission - WSBK's rule-making body - has come to its senses once again, and after bitter complaints from the teams - especially the World Supersport teams, who had their first qualifying practice at 5pm on Friday, often in very cold conditions - the change has been reversed. Practice once again returns to Friday morning, bringing qualifying much closer to race time for both World Superbike and World Supersport.

Let's Crate hands-on: simple drag-and-drop file sharing, but lacking important features

File sharing tools are all the rage. Ranging from the sync-oriented SugarSync, to the excellent workhorse of YouSendIt, and the consummate simplicity of Imgur, you have just about every base covered. It's a concentrated market with a lot of competition, but startup Let's Crate thinks it has what it takes to elbow its way into the money.

Espousing the KISS principle, Let's Crate hopes that the simple addition of drag-and-drop functionality and one crappy Flash flourish is enough to pull users away from tried-and-tested services. Unfortunately, that isn't the case: Let's Crate simply doesn't bring enough to the table.

Laverty Fastest On Final Day Of Phillip Island WSBK Test

The rain that had been hanging over the World Superbike test for the first two days finally came on the third and final day. But the factory Yamaha and Aprilia squads were still lucky, with the rain only starting to fall late on Thursday morning at Phillip Island, before disappearing again in the afternoon, giving the riders a couple more dry sessions at the Australian circuitl. It was Eugene Laverty who made best use of the session, putting on a set of soft tires to set the fastest time, with a lap of 1'31.5. The Yamaha rider finished ahead of Max Biaggi, once again the fastest of the two factory Aprilia riders, while Laverty's teammate Marco Melandri matched the pace of Aprilia's Leon Camier,

The rain did not go to waste, however. Marco Melandri took the opportunity to get some time on the Pirelli rain tires, having no experience on the Italian rubber, after having spent his career in the Grand Prix paddock racing Dunlops, Michelins and Bridgestones. His teammate Laverty was the only rider to test the softer tires, the two Aprilia riders using the harder race tires.

Dear Aunt TUAW: How do I move my iPhoto library to a bigger drive?

Dear Auntie TUAW:

Ever since getting an SLR camera as an early Christmas gift (during Thanksgiving actually), I've been taking high-res photos at a rapid clip -- and filling up my hard drive quickly in the process. In the last month, I've halved my disk space. Is there a good way to offload your iPhoto library to an external drive? I'd still want to be able to access it regularly, so perhaps via a wireless drive like the Time Capsule?

If that's not a smart way to go, what other alternatives are there? Should I just lower the image resolution on my camera from Large to Medium or Small? Seems like it would be kind of defeating the purpose of having such a good camera, but with photos running around 12 MB each (and videos exponentially larger), I'm worried about running out of HD space in January.

Ted

The Significant Decline of Spam

Orome1 writes "In October Commtouch reported an 18% drop in global spam levels (comparing September and October). This was largely attributed to the closure of Spamit around the end of September. Spamit is the organization allegedly behind a fair percentage of the worlds pharmacy spam. Analysis of the spam trends to date reveals a further drop in the amounts of spam sent during Q4 2010. December's daily average was around 30% less than September's. The average spam level for the quarter was 83% down from 88% in Q3 2010. The beginning of December saw a low of nearly 74%."

TUAW's Daily App: Roget's Thesaurus

After a few weeks of games, we're going with more practical apps for a little while here, so here's an iOS version of the famous thesaurus reference book. Roget's Thesaurus is pretty much the name in finding words that can work in the place of other words, and a company called Mobifusion has worked with the real thing to bring it to the iPhone in a searchable form. The app lets you browse through 30,000 words and all of their synonyms, change text sizes on the fly or just flip through if you want to browse that way. You may argue that there are free thesauri (?) available online, and you'd be right, but it's nice, especially if you use one often, to have it available and ready to go on the iPhone whenever you want. The official Roget's Thesaurus app is US$2.99 on the App Store.

And if you don't want to pay a few bucks (just consider how much a paper copy of the book would cost -- it's worth it anyway), there's always the FreeSaurus. That works well, but there are ads in it, and as you should know by now, there's no such thing as a free banquet dinner luncheon lunch.

Honda Press Release After Johnny Rea's Sepang MotoGP Test - Day 1

Ten Kate Honda World Superbike rider Jonathan Rea is at Sepang, testing a Honda MotoGP bike for the first time. Below is the press release issued by Honda after the first day of testing:

HRC RESUMES MOTOGP TESTING AT SEPANG

HRC MotoGP test session Sepang Malaysia. Opening day of three-day test

The HRC R&D Team began a three-day test session at the Sepang circuit, Malaysia today in preparation for the 2011 MotoGP season.

Alongside HRC test rider, Kousuke Akiyoshi, who is continuing the development of the RCV212, HRC also invited Jonathan Rea, the Honda Ten Kate World Superbike Team rider to join the test.

Jonathan Rea made his very first ride on a MotoGP machine today and HRC is pleased to give him the possibility to test ride the RCV212 for the first time.

After having adjusted the riding position on the RC212V to suit his stature, the 23 year old Rea, from Ballymena, Northern Ireland, went on track today joining Japanese rider, and Suzuka 8-hour team-mate Akiyoshi.

Akiyoshi and Rea made the most of the warm weather at the 5.548km circuit to complete almost full day’s work with the Honda RC212V stopping for just one hour due to a short rain shower.
