Blog Post: New hotels around the world

Got wanderlust? Does it involve checking into shiny new hotels? You’re in luck.

New Domestic Hotels

Aloft New York Brooklyn opened June 9 in New York. The 176-room hotel has loftlike guest rooms and a rooftop terrace bar with views of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Good for: techies.

Dream Downtown opened June 29 in Manhattan, marking a $270 million-dollar renovation of an iconic 1960s Albert C. Ledner building. It has 316 loft-inspired guestrooms, including 16 suites. Good for: techies, fitness aficionados.

The McMenamins Crystal Hotel opened May 3 in Portland, Ore. Each of the 51 guest rooms is inspired by a song or performance from the neighboring Crystal Ballroom's first 100 years. Your accommodations, therefore, might give a nod to Rudolph Valentino, the Grateful Dead, Modest Mouse or Tito Puente. Good for: Music lovers.

The Hotel Yountville in California's Napa Valley had its grand opening in March. It has 80 rooms with oversized spa tubs and steam showers for two, fireplaces and private decks. It also has its own restaurant, Hopper Creek Kitchen, and a 4,000-square-foot spa. Good for: romance, foodies, spa.

Want to combine luxury travel and respect for the planet? Eco Serendib Villa and Spa opened on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands in June. It has eight suites, a full-service spa,  a dining room, pool, hot tub, barbecue terrace and meditation garden.  Good for: ecotourism, spa.

New International Hotels

Want to stay at the tallest building in Latin America? The Trump Ocean Club International Hotel & Tower Panama opened July 6 in Panama City, Panama.  Good for: business, spa.

The Mandarin Oriental, Paris, has opened on the Rue Saint-Honoré, the city's main boulevard of fashion. The 138-room hotel is within walking distance of the Louvre. Good for: culture, foodies.

Paradisus La Esmeralda and Paradisus La Perla are scheduled to open in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, in November. Paradisus La Perla will be an adults-only resort with 394 suites. If it’s swimming that you love, Paradisus La Esmeralda will offer 512 suites, including 56 swim-up suites. Good for: romance, foodies, spa.

Want to learn scuba diving on vacation? The Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa opened in April with 50 villas in the Maldives Islands. It has a Professional Association of Diving Instructors diving and water sports center. Good for: diving.

Buccament Bay Resort opened in April in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The luxury resort has villas, its own white-sand beach and calm bay for swimming and snorkeling. It also has a tennis academy, a soccer school, performing arts academy, and a diving and watersports center. Good for: families, spa. Book this hotel on Bing Travel.

The Hilton Chennai opened in March in Chennai, a city in southeastern India formerly known as Madras. The 204-room hotel is near attractions such as Guindy National Park, Marina Beach and the old town of Mylapore, housing the ancient temple of Kapaleeswarar. Good for: business.
