Amazon announces Kindle app for Android and Windows Tablets

Amazon has announced that it will release a Kindle app for Android and Windows-based tablets later this year. The app would be great on Samsung's Android-powered Galaxy Tab, but it's actually designed to be ready for devices that haven't even been released yet, like the HTC tablet rumored to launch in February. "We're very excited to support the upcoming Android and Windows LCD tablet computers with free Kindle apps that we'll tailor for the particular devices," said Dorothy Nichols, Amazon's Kindle director, in a press release.

Like previous Kindle apps -- including the existing Android app for phones -- the tablet version will be free. It will also give you access to all your previously purchased books through Amazon's "buy once, read anywhere" Whispernet system.
